Our weekly college basketball picks have Texas Southern at Oregon (7:00 PM ET), Maine at Virginia Tech (8:30 PM ET), and Dixie State at Gonzaga (9:00 PM). This is tip off day for the 2021 -22 NCAA Men’s Basketball and the schedule is overfloowing with betting opportunities. We’ve chosen three contests that feature major mismatches. All will be played on Tuesday, November 9, 2021.

Texas Southern at Oregon Pick (Spread -21.5)

The spread for our Texas Southern at Oregon pick is hefty. However, it’s the smallest of the three NCAAMs games we’ve chosen. Last season, Texas Southern received a NCAA First Four berth after they won the Southwestern Atlantic Tournament title. They played and beat Mount St. Mary’s. The Tigers were eliminated in the Round of 62 by Michigan. The big difference between last year’s team and this one is leading scorer Michael Weathers. After the tournament, Weathers transferred to SMU. However, some fine players return including double-digit scorers John Walker III and Jordan Karl. Both are in the frontcourt. Additionally, guards Jordan Gilliam and Yahuza Rasas, both of whom made important contributions last year, return. Transfer A.J. Lawson (McNeese) will play a role.

The #13 Oregon Ducks are a formidable team. In front, Eric Williams Jr. is the team’s leading returning rebounder. Plus, he’s a solid scoring threat. Center N'Faly Dante is a fine talent. However, he played just six games at center last season due to an ACL tear. There’s plenty of depth in the paint. So much of last year’s backcourt is gone. Look for Rutgers transfer Jacob Young and Oklahoma transfers De'Vion Harmon to play major minutes tonight. Both a double-digit scorers. We like the Ducks to win but not by 22 points. Take the Tigers.

Texas Southern at Oregon Pick - Tigers at +21.2 (-110)

Maine at Virginia Tech (Spread -27.0)

Although the point spread of 27 looks huge in this game. The fact is it may not be. In the America East Conference, the Maine Black Bears finished last in 2020-21 and are projected to do the same this season. If they are to have a chance at keeping the gap under 27 points, the Bears will need major help from double-digit scorers LaChaun DuHart (11.0 PPG) and Stephane Ingo (10.6 PPG, 8.6 RPG, 2.6 BPG).

Hokies forward Keve Aluma could be the best players in the ACC and, some say, in the nation. Senior forward Justin Mutts, a fine interior scorer who also has premium defensive chops, joins him. Wofford transfer Storm Murphy ably sets up plays, distributes the ball, and hits long-range shots. Junior Nahiem Alleyne is a premium arc shooter. We like VT.

Maine at Virginia Tech - Hokies at -27.0 (-110)

Dixie State at Gonzaga (Spread -40.0)

Last season, the Dixie State Trailblazers mover from Division II to Division I. They did struggle. They met the Bulldogs last year and lost by more than 40 points. Three starters run to the Trailblazers. Plus, BYU transfer Kolby Lee joins them. However, the #1 Gonzaga Bulldogs are loaded. Along with potential Player of the Year Drew Timme, they feature the top recruit in the nation center Chet Holmgren. In back, Andrew Nembhard runs the point. There’s a huge amount of depth at wing. We’re taking the Bulldogs at -40.0.

Dixie State at Gonzaga - Bulldogs at -40 (-110)
