Betting When NFL and College Football Are Dormant
NFL bettors have just three more games to wager on before they enter a seven-month hiatus when no league games are being played. Of course, for college football bettors, the season ended weeks ago. Besides debating which top college players will be drafted by which NFL teams, considering NCAAF and NFL futures betting, and mulling over season previews, what’s a football bettor to do when there’s nothing to bet on?
The first thing to do is to realize that there’s plenty of sports and games on which you can place a wager. Instead of being dormant college football and/or NFL bettors anticipating the 2022-23 season, we suggest that you diversify. Here are some of your choices.
NBA, NHL, EPL, and NCAAM
There’s plenty of betting action for NFL bettors and those who wager on college football. The NBA plays a total of 1,230 and the NHL offers 1,312 regular season games. Plus, the English Premier League is good for a total 320 matches. In addition, there are Champions League and Europa League offerings. Finally, men’s Division I college basketball plays over 5,000 games from November into March.
All of these sports run into the spring or early summer. Of course, to bet on them, you’ll need to do some research. But when you consider regular-season offerings as well as the NBA and NHL playoffs and March Madness, there are over 8,000 games on which to bet.
Major League Baseball?
Normally, MLB would be included in the list above. However, at this time, the owners have locked the players out. At the writing of this post, spring training is three weeks away, and the first spring games are scheduled to start in four weeks. If the Major League Baseball owners and players union can come to an agreement, the season opener will be held on March 31, 2022. If the two sides do come to an agreement, there will be the potential to wager on 2,430 MLB regular-season games.
For NFL Bettors - USFL Redux
Yes, NFL bettors, there will be professional football in the U.S. this spring and summer. The new USFL’s regular season is scheduled to kickoff on April 16 and run through mid-June. After that, there will be three postseason games. A total of 43 games are scheduled.
In the USFL, eight teams are divided into two divisions. The South Division includes the Birmingham Stallions, Houston Gamblers, New Orleans Breakers, and Tampa Bay Bandits. The North Division is comprised of the Michigan Panthers, New Jersey Generals, Philadelphia Stars, and Pittsburgh Maulers. All games will be played at either Protective Stadium or Legion Field in Birmingham, AL. (I guess we know who has home-field advantage in this league!). Each team will play 10 games.
NCAAF and NFL Bettors - Other Opportunities
Thus, with over 10,000 games to wager on, such volume can be overwhelming for NFL bettors. After all, this season there were just 272 NFL games played. Division I FBS teams played approximately 800 games. Plus, there were 38 postseason contests. Although betting on other sports may seem daunting, at this point if you are exclusively focused on football, you’re missing out on 91 percent of the action. In many ways, that’s your loss. For more opportunities diversify.
