Ironic, according to our Washington Football Team preview 2021, that for the first time since 2015 this team finished first in the NFC East and made the postseason. Ironic for a few reasons. First, they won the division after starting 1-5. Second, the Football Team won the NFC East with a losing 7-9 record. In the playoffs, Washington lost to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 31-23. It was an interesting first season for Ron Rivera (7-9 Washington/1 year, 86-76-1 Overall/10 years, 3-4 Postseason), a veteran NFL head coach. What will Rivera do for an encore? We can say one thing. It won’t be easy for Washington to get back to the playoffs in 2021.

Football Team Offense

Ryan Fitzpatrick, a 17-year vet, comes from Miami to anchor the quarterback spot. Will second-year quarterback Steven Montez, who got no snaps last season, get a chance to play? The skinny is Fitzpatrick will offer the team a chance to win partly due to his competitiveness and, also, because of his extensive experience. The O-line is mature, sound, and deep. It includes premium center Chase Roullier and All-Pro guard Brandon Scherff. Vets Ereck Flowers at guard and Moses Morgan at tackle are reliable. Rookie tackle Samuel Cosmi will likely start.

Last year, wideout Terry McLaurin proved to be a major impact player. McLaurin led the Football Team in receptions (87), receiving yards (1,118), and average yards per catch (12.9). He caught four TD passes. Free agent Curtis Samuel comes from the Panthers with speed that will open up the field. Additionally, tight end Logan Thomas returns after enjoying a breakout season last year. In 2020, he made 72 catches and led Washington in TD catches with six. Wideout Kelvin Harmon, who missed his second NFL season due to an ACL injury, is healthy. He could start. Certainly, last season, rookie running back Antonio Gibson (170 ATT, 795 YDs, 4.7 AVG, 11 TDs) proved that he was a solid performer. He’s back, and the best offensive weapon on this team. Peyton Barber is a solid second man in while dual-threat J.D. McKissic is an effective third-down back and option as a receiver.

Washington Football Team Preview – Defense

The frontline is one of the best in the NFL. Last season, rookie end Chase Young (7.5 SCKs) proved to be an elite defender. In his second season with the Football Team, end Montez Sweat posted a breakthrough year. He led the team in sacks (9). Tackle Daron Payne is a run-stopper, while Jonathan Allen, also a tackle, has strength, intelligence, and leadership smarts.

Our Washington Football Team preview 2021 notes that rookie OLB Jamin Davis (Kentucky) will help upgrade the linebacking unit. MLB Jon Bostic led the team in tackles with 118, while Cole Holcomb placed third with 70. This is a good unit. However, depth is lacking in the LB group. In the secondary, safety Kamren Curl had a premium rookie season. He was second on the team in tackles (88) and in picks (3). Safety Landon Collins, a true NFL star, struggled last year and saw his season end early due to an ACL injury. He’s back and, hopefully, healthy. Corners Kendall Fuller (4 INTs) and William Jackson III are a quality defensive duo.

Washington Football Team Special Teams

Dustin Hopkins is an average NFL placekicker, and Tress Way is one of the league’s best punters. Together, they’re a stabilizing tandem on special teams. Rookie long snapper Camaron Cheeseman (Michigan) replaces veteran Nick Sundberg. Who will return kicks and punts? Good question.

Washington Football Team Preview 2021 – Final Word

Coach Rivera looks to improve on last season’s record and get this team back to the playoffs for a second-straight season. Our Washington Football Team preview 2021 finds that it won’t be easy for that to happen. The Dallas Cowboys, a major roadblock in Rivera’s effort, are loaded. Additionally, chances are whoever comes in second in the NFC East will not earn a postseason berth.

NFC East Summary - Washington Football Team 2021:
