Washington Basketball Preview 2021

Our Washington basketball preview 2021 - 22 notes that the Huskies were an abysmal team last season. They were 5-21 overall and 4-16 in the Pac-12, finishing 11th. Head coach Mike Hopkins (68-60 Washington/4 years, 72-65 Overall/5 years) replaced two assistants while the team has undergone a huge roster turnover. The top eight scorers from last season are gone either to the NBA or other schools. There’s been a lot of action via the transfer portal, but we doubt there’s enough talent onboard to get this team back on track.

Huskies Frontcourt

The Huskies will look to McDonald’s All-American and top-75 recruit Jackson Grant to be a difference maker immediately. He brings fine offensive skills, including a dead-on three point shot and plenty of scoring chops in front. Our Washington basketball preview 2021 - 22 sees 6’9” junior college transfer Langston Wilson as also being key to this team’s success. Wilson plays power forward commandingly. Samuel Ariyibi, a product of the NBA Academy Africa from Nigeria, is an intimidating physical presence. Riley Sorn stands 7’4” and could be a game changer if he can develop the needed endurance to play at the college level.

Washington Basketball Preview – Backcourt

Three transfers could transform the Huskies backcourt. Daejon Davis (Stanford), who started parts of four seasons for the Cardinal, is a major playmaker and distributor. Terrell Brown Jr. (Arizona) averaged 20.7 PPG for his first school Seattle. He was All-WAC Guard that year. P.J. Fuller (TCU) has starting experience and can score in bunches. Returning is Jamal Bey, whose 50.7 percent three-point success rate topped the Pac-12. Bey averaged 10.3 PPG while shooting 45.8 percent from the floor and 73.0 percent from the foul line. He started 25 games last season and averaged 31.0 MPG. Bey will be an important anchor and contributor.

Washington Basketball Preview 2021 – Final Word

Our Washington basketball preview 2021 - 22 acknowledges that it’s not lost on anyone that after the 2018-19 season, when this team went to the Big Dance, that Hopkins received a six-year contract worth $17.5 million. Since then, the team has gone 20-38. Hopkins is under a huge amount of pressure to create a winner. The problem is there doesn’t seem to be enough key pieces to do so. The 2021 -22 season looks dire for the Huskies.
