Virginia Tech Basketball Preview 2021
Our Virginia Tech basketball preview 2021 - 22 notes that in 2017, after a 10-year hiatus from the NCAA Tournament, the Hokies went to the Big Dance and have done so each season since. Last year, the Virginia Tech Hokies (15-7 Overall, 9-4 ACC) finished third in the ACC. Unfortunately, they were eliminated from the NCAA Tournament in the Round of 64. This is a team on the rise. In two years with the Hokies, head coach Mike Young (31-23 Virginia Tech/2 years, 330-267 Overall/19 years) has been impressive. He’s put competitive teams on the court, and last season he was so impressive Young was named ACC Coach of the Year. There’s more good news, as this season, Young sees a fine core of veterans return and welcomes various solid additions.
Hokies Frontcourt
Last season, big-bodied Keve Aluma recorded breakthrough numbers. Aluma averaged 15.2 PPG and 7.9 RPG while shooting 49.0 from the floor and 35.1 percent from beyond the arc. Our Virginia Tech basketball preview 2021 - 22 observes with senior forward Justyn Mutts, Aluma forms one of the best frontcourts in the ACC. In 2020-21, Mutts, a 51.9 percent field-goal shooter, was good for 9.5 PPG and 6.4 RPG. Former four-star recruit and sophomore transfer Lynn Kidd (Clemson) takes the center position. He’s projected to be a disruptive force who ably adds depth to this group. Numerous accomplished and experienced subs add depth in the paint and corners.
Virginia Tech Basketball Preview – Backcourt
Transfer Storm Murphy (Wofford) comes to VT with 119 games under his belt. Last season, he earned All-Southern Conference honors. Murphy, a point guard, can lead and score. He’ll likely be a major generator on offense. Also, Nahiem Alleyne, a 40.8 percent three-point shooter, is an invaluable asset. He can score in bunches. It’s hoped that junior Tyrece Radford, who had tested the transfer portal, will return. Last season, he hit 55.0 percent of his field goal while averaging 12.2 PPG. Sophomore Darius Maddox comes off the bench to add depth.
Virginia Tech Basketball Preview 2021 – Final Word
Coach Young has a lot of talent to work with, and we expect that he’ll be able to utilize the talents of his players fully. Our Virginia Tech basketball preview 2021 - 22 projects the Hokies to be tough and resolute in pursuing a conference and NCAA championship. Both the frontcourt and backcourt look solid and deep.
