San Antonio Spurs Preview 2021

Our San Antonio Spurs preview 2021 notes that this team has always been a powerhouse. In fact, from 1998 through 2014, Spurs went to the NBA Finals six times, winning five titles. However, in the last two seasons the team has finished out of the playoffs. Last season with a 33-39 record they finished 10th and did make the Play-In Round. Unfortunately, San Antonio did not make it into the postseason. This season, we expect the Spurs will miss the playoffs for a third season in a row.

Spurs Frontcourt

Our San Antonio Spurs preview 2021 finds that center is a major question mark for this club. Five-year veteran Jakob Poeltl, an top-notch scorer and rebounder, will start. A 61.6 percent field-goal shooter, the one rub here is that Poeltl has never averaged more than 27 MPG, and most seasons, he’s played under 19. Drew Eubanks offers about 12 MPG of quality relief.

Keldon Johnson (12.8 PPG, 6.0 RPG, 47.9 FG%) starts at the power spot and Doug McDermott (13.6 PPG, 3.3 RPG, 53.2 FG%), who came from Indiana, plays small forward. Thaddeus Young, a 14-year vet formerly with the Bulls, is a perennial double-digit scorer. Second-year player Devin Vassell, a solid shooter and rebounder, will also sub at forward.

San Antonio Spurs Preview – Backcourt

Point guard Dejounte Murray returns as the leading scorer. Last season, his fourth, Murray averaged 31.9 MPG, scoring 15.7 PPG and dishing off 5.4 APG. Shooting guard Derrick White, who also subs at point, continues to improve. Last season, he averaged 15.4 PPG while hitting 41.1 percent of his field goals and 34.5 percent of his threes. In his third season, Lonnie Walker IV hit for 11.2 PPG. He back up the shooting spot. This is a good unit.

San Antonio Spurs Preview 2021 – Final Word

Our San Antonio Spurs preview 2021 notes that this team has seen some great players come and go. Tim Duncan, DeMar Rozen, Kawhi Leonard, and LaMarcus Aldridge, to name a few, are gone. The ranks are thin and future Hall of Fame coach Gregg Popovich may have seen his best days pass by. The outlook this season is not good. This is a young team with a lot of rough spots. It will take time for the Spurs to rebound and become a contender once again.
