North Carolina Basketball Preview 2021

Our North Carolina basketball preview 2021 - 22 notes that the Tar Heels always seem to have a shot at the national title. Head coach Hubert Davis takes over from esteemed head coach Roy Williams. Williams had been mentoring Davis as a North Carolina assistant for nine years. Thus, expectations are high for the Tar Heels. Last season the North Carolina Tar Heels (18-11 Overall, 10-6 ACC) finished sixth in the ACC and earned a spot at the Big Dance. Unfortunately, they were eliminated in the Round of 64. This year the Tar Heels could fare better as they attempt to capture another national title.

Tar Heels Frontcourt

Last year, F/C Armando Bacot, a junior, led the Tar Heels in field-goal percentage, scoring, and rebounding. He can hit through contact, knock them in from midrange, and take it down off the offensive glass and score. Three transfers join Bacot with Dawson Garcia (Marquette) being an exceptional offensive player with an impressive three-point shot. Brady Manek (Oklahoma) also brings a premium three-point shot to the floor, while Justin McKoy (Virginia) is a tough defender. Our North Carolina basketball preview 2021 - 22 also notes that freshman Dontrez Styles is a versatile two-way player. This is an exceptional unit.

North Carolina Basketball Preview – Backcourt

Last season as a freshman, Caleb Love struggled, especially early in the season. It’s hoped a year of experience will allow him to improve on his 1.16 assist-to-turnover ratio. Love shot just 31.6 percent from the floor and 26.6 percent from downtown. He comes into his second season as a wildcard. On the other hand, as a freshman Kerwin Walton shot 44.4/42.0/84.0, averaging 8.2 PPG and 20.9 MPG. Plus, there’s depth with sophomores RJ Davis and Anthony Harris being able to cover either position.

North Carolina Basketball Preview 2021 – Final Word

In 2017, North Carolina won the NCAA Championship. Since then, the closest they’ve come to taking another crown was in 2019 when the Tar Heels made it to the Sweet 16. Our North Carolina basketball preview 2021 - 22 sees this team as having potential. The frontcourt is impressive. However, the backcourt has a major question mark. If Love can come through, this team could be massively successful.
