Our New York Jets preview 2021 observes that last season this team was 0-6 in their division. Additionally, they went 2-14 overall. From 2001 to 2010, the Jets went to the playoffs six times. In 2009 and 2010, they made it to the AFC Championship game, losing both. Since 2011, NY has recorded one winning mark (10-5 in 2015) and two seasons when they went 8-8. In the AFC East, they’ve finished either third or fourth in seven-of-10 seasons. Expect more of the same from the Jets this season.

Jets Offense

Last season, the Jets were ranked 32nd in overall offense (279.9 YPG), 32nd in points (15.2 PG), and 32nd in third-down conversions (34%). Rookie quarterback Zach Wilson comes to the Jets from Brigham Young. He possesses great field vision, accuracy, and arm strength. The offensive line is in transition, and it will take some time for them to coordinate and adjust. There’s new talent here.

Wideout Corey Davis is a major addition. The former Titan has a big frame and is a huge asset when in the red zone. Jamison Crowder (59 REC, 699 YDs, 11.9 AVG, 6 TDs) returns as the team’s leading receiver. Rookie Elijah Moore is exceptionally versatile and young Denzel Mims has star potential. TE Chris Henderson IV struggled at the start of last season. However, he showed promise as the season went on. The rush attack has talent and depth with free-agent Tevin Coleman joining the team and Ty Johnson and Josh Adams ready to go.

New York Jets Preview – Defense

Our New York Jets preview 2021 notes that last season the Jet defense struggled. They allowed 28.6 PPG (26th), gave up 275.6 passing yards (28th), and made 10 INTs (23rd). In 2021, we don’t anticipate things being much better on this side of the ball. The frontline is perhaps the best unit on defense and tackle the strongest position. Sheldon Rankins and Quinnen Williams (7 SCKs) are big and fast. Free-agent ends Carl Lawson and Vinny Curry will likely start.

The Jets also added two free agents to their linebacking group. Both Jarrad Davis and Del-Shawn Phillips are speedy. New York also drafted new linebacking talent. Plus, MLB C.J. Mosley, who opted out in 2020, is back. The corner spots are question marks. The Jets drafted three corners in this year’s late rounds. Strong safety Ashtyn Davis and free safety Jarrod Wilson will likely start.

New York Jets Special Teams

Rookie Matt Ammendola comes to the team to kick. He’s reliable and accurate. Punter Thomas Morstead, who spent 12 years with the Saints, joins the Jets. He’s got a strong and accurate leg. Five-year vet Thomas Hennessy returns for another season with the Jets. He’s consistent. Also back is solid return man Braxton Berrios.

New York Jets Preview 2021 – Final Word

Robert Saleh starts his NFL head coaching career this season. Saleh, whose resume includes defensive coordinator for the 49ers, replaced all but four members of the coaching staff. Our New York Jets preview 2021 expects this to be a season where Saleh and company grow and improve. There’s some good, young talent on this team. It will take time for them to develop. Also, the Jets still have some holes to fill on both sides of the ball.
