In considering this team’s recent history, our New York Giants preview 2021 finds that the organization is feeling pressure to win. The last time the Giants made the playoffs was 2016 as a Wild Card. Since then, they’ve won a total of 18 games in four seasons. Last year, New York (6-10) finished second in the underperforming NFC East. With that, general manager Dave Gettleman committed over $200 million to free agents and backloaded a slew of contracts. The Giants are committed to getting back to the postseason in 2021. But is there enough to do so?

Giants Offense

Daniel Jones starts his third season as the Giants’ quarterback. However, questions abound regarding Jones and his ability to fill the role of franchise QB. Last season, he completed 280-of-448 passes for 2,943 yards. Jones hit for 11 scores while tossing 10 picks. This is a make-or-break year for the NY signal caller. The bad news is the offensive line has numerous issues and question marks. Exactly how this unit will look is unknown. Expect to see numerous configurations until the right fit is found.

The receiving group includes two free agents, wideout Kenny Golladay, a premium performer, and 11-year veteran tight end Kyle Rudolph. Rookie Kedarius Toney (Florida), a first-round pick, will likely slot. But he’s versatile enough to sub as a runner. John Ross, a free agent who did not perform as expected with the Bengals, has speed and could find a home with NY. The running game will be healthy if Saquon Barkley is healthy. Barkley returns after having his ACL tear repaired. Numerous free agents come to the unit, including resilient third-down running back Devontae Booker.

New York Giants Preview – Defense

Overall, the D-line looks solid, as end Dexter Lawrence II and tackles Leonard Williams and B.J. Hill fill out the front. Plus, veteran tackles Austin Johnson and Danny Shelton add depth. Watch fourth-year end Ifeadi Odenigbo. He’s got sack potential. Our New York Giants preview 2021 finds that the linebacking unit has potential. ILB Blake Martinez, the defensive leader on this side of the ball, is a tackle machine. Last year marked his fifth-straight 100-plus tackle season. Two young OLBs, Lorenzo Carter and Oshane Ximines, have shown a lot of promise as pass rushers. Free-agent Reggie Ragland will compete with returning ILB Tae Crowder for the second inside spot.

Pro Bowler James Bradberry (3 INTs) returns to anchor the secondary. Free agent Adoree’ Jackson, former Tennessee first-round pick, comes with five years of corner experience. He’s talented and hoping to resurrect his career. Second-year player Xavier McKinney, premium tackler Jabrill Peppers, and versatile performer Logan Ryan are all solid safeties. Julian Love is a dependable corner/safety while Darnay Holmes is the slot corner. This is a premium unit.

New York Giants Special Teams

Three stalwarts, placekicker Graham Gano, punter Riley Dixon, and long snapper Casey Kreiter, all come back. The three are fine vets. However, Dixon was inconsistent last season and needs to find his 2019 rhythm. Who will man the return spots is unknown. Candidates include safety Jabrill Peppers and receiver Dante Pettis.

New York Giants Preview 2021 – Final Word

Head coach Joe Judge (6-10 Overall) starts his second season at NY. Our New York Giants preview 2021 observes that the franchise likes the foundation Judge has created as well as the assistant and coordinator spots he’s filled. A major issue for this team has been offense. The Giants were 31st in scoring last season. Offensive coordinator Jason Garrett, an 18-year NFL veteran, starts his second season with the team. Progress is expected.
