Golden State Warriors Preview 2021
Our Golden State Warriors preview 2021 observes that from 2014-15 through 2018-19, this team made five straight NBA Championship rounds, winning three titles. However, over the past two years, the Warriors have not been in the playoffs. In 2019-20 they went 15-50, finishing fifth in the Pacific and 15th in the West. Last season, Golden State won 39 and lost 33, which earned them fourth place in the division and ninth place in the conference. Although the Warriors made the Play-In Round, they were unable to earn a berth in the postseason. This year should be different for this team.
Warriors Frontcourt
Power forward Draymond Green is a major force on the court. Green has great court vision and quick hands. Last season, he averaged 8.9 APG, 7.1 RPG, and 1.7 SPG. Green shot 44.7 percent from the field and averaged 7.0 PPG. He possesses a high basketball IQ and fine anticipation. However, at times Green’s emotions get the better of him, which causes the power forward to make bad decisions. Small forward Andrew Wiggins can score. In 2020-2021, he hit 47.7 percent of his field goals and 38.0 percent of his threes. Wiggins was good for 18.6 PPG. Otto Porter, who for the past three seasons has played with various teams while battling injuries, arrives to backup the small and forward spots. When healthy, he can score and defend.
Our Golden State Warriors preview 2021 notes that center Kevon Looney, a six-year vet who’s played every season with Golden State, can rebound, guard the rim, and hit from inside. However, his shot-blocking chops have declined. Still, he may start. Last season, as a rookie center, James Wiseman played unevenly. Wiseman, who averaged 21.4 MPG and hit 51.9 percent of his field goals, averaged 11.5 PPG, 5.8 RPG, and 0.9 BPG. If he can step up, he’ll see more playing time, and the Warriors will be a better team.
Golden State Warriors Preview – Backcourt
After a dozen years in the league, you’d expect Stephen Curry would start to slow down or be less effective. Well, that’s not happening. Last season, he had career highs with 32.0 PPG and 5.5 RPG. Plus, he was good for 5.8 APG while shooting .482/.421/.916. Curry played in and started 63 games. He’s an amazing, all-around player who, along with Green, can carry this team.
Jordan Poole, who last season was Golden State’s fourth leading scorer, averaging 12.0 PPG, looks ready to start at shooting guard. Poole shot 43.2 percent from the field and 35.1 percent from downtown. He’ll also back up Curry. Also coming in to sub at guard will be 17-year vet Andre Iguodala, rookie Moses Moody, and four-year player Damion Lee. This trio can hit threes at will.
Golden State Warriors Preview 2021 – Final Word
Our Golden State Warriors preview 2021 notes that head coach Steve Kerr (376-171) has had an amazing run with the Warriors. It’s true that the 2019-2020 season was a disaster. But that was due to injuries to key players and Kevin Durant heading off to Brooklyn. However, last year, this team should have made the postseason. If they don’t push through to the playoffs in 2021-2022 expect people to start wondering aloud if Kerr is in decline.
