Georgia Basketball Preview 2021
Our Georgia basketball preview 2021 - 22 sees the Bulldogs finishing dead last in the SEC again. Last year, Georgia went 7-11 in the league and 14-12 overall. Once again, after a dismal season, coach Tom Crean (41-49 Georgia/3 years, 397-280 Overall/21 years) saw a majority of his players leave the team. The entire backcourt is gone and much of the front has also departed. Five players return while seven transfers and three freshmen join the Bulldog ranks. But will those changes have a positive effect?
Bulldogs Frontcourt
Our Georgia basketball preview 2021 - 22 notes that P.J. Horne and three other front men come back. Horne, a senior, is the returning leading scorer (8.5 PPG) and rebounder (3.4 RPG). He’s also the leader in starts with 26 and MPG with 28.4. Horne is the veteran anchor on the Bulldogs. Also returning are Tyron McMillan, Jonathan Ned, and Josh Taylor. They have two starts among them and no one has averaged more than 6.9 MPG. Junior college forward Dalen Ridgnal (Cowley College, KS) averaged 18.6 PPG and 11.7 RPG last season. Tyrone Baker, a 6’11” freshman, adds size in the paint. Transfer Braelen Bridges (Illinois-Chicago) averaged 9.9 PPG and 4.8 RPG.
Georgia Basketball Preview – Backcourt
Walkon contributor Jaxon Etter is back. Otherwise, the entire backcourt is new. Gonzaga graduate transfer Aaron Cook, who spent most of his career at Southern Illinois, scored 21 points in the Zags’ six NCAA Tournament games. He played about 30 percent of his available minutes. Sophomore transfer Kario Oquendo (Florida SouthWestern State) and freshman Christian Wright could both work their way into the starting rotation. Etter will see playing time. When you come down to it, this is the weakest backcourt in the SEC.
Georgia Basketball Preview 2021 – Final Word
The Georgia Bulldogs desperately need stability, and Crean needs to be the one to right the ship. Time is running out for the coach. Our Georgia basketball preview 2021 - 22 does not see this team digging itself out of the cellar this season. But they could make improvements that would help such as cutting down on turnovers. Last season, the Bulldogs averaged 16.7 TOPG. This has been a habitual issue under Crean as has losing SEC seasons. In three years under Crean, this team’s SEC record is 14-40 while their overall mark is 41-49. The Georgia Bulldogs are simply not in the same league as most of the rest of the SEC. Something has to happen.
