English Premier League Preview 2021

Our English Premier League Preview 2021 includes a breakdown of the 20 teams into four segments of five each. We start with the First Five, who are the five teams most likely to qualify for either Champions or Europa League and go all the way down to the Fourth Five, which are the five teams we find are most likely to be in a battle to survive the three-team relegation process.

Note, up to two other teams can end up in the Europa League. However, usually the top five qualify, with four going to the Champions League and one to the Europa League. Plus, the winner of the FA Cup usually qualifies the Europa League, which means a total of six teams will usually qualify.

How Good is the EPL?

The UEFA ranks the EPL as the top league in Europe. Thus, this is a highly competitive league. Consequently, just because we’ve ranked a team in the Third Five, that doesn’t mean it won’t be competitive enough to qualify for the Europe or Champions League. Additionally, when it comes to relegation, a Third Five team could end up on the bubble. And don’t forget, football transfers can change a team’s trajectory.
