Starting with the 2006-07 season, our Edmonton Oilers preview 2021 - 22 observers that this team missed the playoffs for 10-straight years. In 2017, the Oilers qualified for the postseason. In three of the past five years, they’ve earned a playoff berth. Last season, Edmonton was 35-19-2, finishing second in the North with 72 points. Unfortunately, the Oilers lost to the Jets fours games to none in the initial round. This season, we expect Edmonton will be very competitive and be back in the hunt for the Cup.

Oilers - Key Skaters

There are two premium players on this team, centers Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl. Bot are awesome two-way players who can carry a team. We expect that the two Oilers will do just that this season. Both are extremely dangerous on the power play and on 5-on-5. Additionally, center Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and wing Jesse Puljujarvi can get it done. Our Edmonton Oilers preview 2021 - 22 also finds that there are some solid D-men on this team, including Evan Bouchard. Bouchard, who starts his third NHL season, looks ready to reach a new level. The big question mark is defenseman Duncan Keith. Keith, who comes to the Oilers from the Blackhawks after 16 years, has been in decline the last few seasons. Last year, he recorded 15 points and was -13.

Edmonton Oilers Preview 2021 – Goaltending

In goal, Mikko Koskinen starts his fifth NHL season with four in the crease for the Oilers. At 58-46-9, he’s solid. Koskinen comes into this season with a 2.99 GAA and .907 SV%. Second-year goalie Stuart Skinner will likely see action. He’s got potential and needs to get in game reps.

Edmonton Oilers Preview 2021 – Final Word

In 16 seasons of NHL coaching, Edmonton’s Dave Tippett has been to the Stanley Cup Playoffs 10 times. In his first two seasons at the helm of the Edmonton Oilers, Tippett has guided the team to two playoff appearances. Both times, the Oilers did not make it past the first round. However, our Edmonton Oilers preview 2021 - 22 finds that things could be different this season. We find that Edmonton will go deep into the postseason.
